Abstract

In this article we present a translation analysis of some sayings taken from Miguel de Cervantes's masterpiece, Don Quixote, and its Arabic version by the Syrian translator Rif`at `Atfah, paying special attention to the translation techniques handled by the translator. We will try to identify each analyzed saying, and except in cases of null equivalence, we will offer alternative translations of a paremiological nature, which we do not consider as the only valid versions, but rather as translation proposals, taking into account the paremiological translation techniques and the frequency of use of paremias. We add an annex that contains the sayings of our corpus, accompanied by their Arabic correspondents that we have located according to the techniques of searching for paremiological correspondence.
