Procedures for unethical behaviors
Identification of unethical behavior
Any person and at any time if they detect unethical behavior can inform the editor or the editorial team.
They constitute unethical conducts: plagiarism, omission of authorship or co-authorship; the lack of indication of the use of financing sources assigned according to competitions; the total or partial submission of articles already published; the use of unpublished articles by the editor or any of the members of the editorial committee; review of the article if there are conflicts of interest; or any aspect that affects the standards of good practice.
Investigation
Whoever reports inappropriate or unethical behavior to the editor must provide all the necessary background information to initiate an investigative process. The investigation must be kept confidential at all times, providing the possibility of discharges from the affected person.
Offenses
Once the investigation is concluded, one of the following measures may be applied:
For manuscripts under evaluation and publication process
- Inform the person about the lack of ethical standards.
- Warn the person in stricter terms that their behavior is not acceptable and cannot be repeated in the future. In case of repetition, the magazine reserves the right to reject the article.
- Delete the article from the magazine, even if it has been accepted.
For published articles
- Publication in the magazine of a note or editorial, which indicates the violation of ethics.
- Incorporate a retraction note as the first page, before the article, indicating the reasons for the withdrawal and placing a mark on all pages indicating "Article retracted"
For all manuscripts and articles
- In the event that the conduct corresponds to a criminal offense, the corresponding authorities will be informed.
- Send a formal and detailed letter to the employer or to the institution to which the person accused of the fault belongs.
