The value of the practice of simulated lumbar puncture in seventh year medical interns

To assess the perception of the seventh year medical interns of the University of Antofagasta about the educational activity that consisted in performing the simulated technique of lumbar puncture, within the framework of the academic activities of the neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry internship program at the University of Antofagasta, corresponding to the 2018 period, considering that EUNACOM establishes specific competences for the general practitioner in the neurological field. Cross-sectional quantitative study, the sample of which was 27 students (out of a total of 34) who completed the Internship in neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry of the Medicine Program during 2018. The instrument used to collect information was a questionnaire. The statistical software SPSS 15.0 was used for the analysis and presentation of results. There are strengths and weaknesses derived from experience. With percentages above 70%, the availability of previous material, the time considered for the development of the practical activity and the previous knowledge test are positively evaluated. In addition, more than 90% positively value the importance of the Lumbar Puncture Technique. The development of the Simulated Lumbar Puncture Technique by the Seventh Year Interns of the Medical Program of the University of Antofagasta is valued positively, as well as its instructional design.
